The Ivory Coast legend spent his final playing days with the USL's Phoenix Rising, which he led to the final in the recently concluded season.

All good things must come to an end, and Didier Drogba will surely call it quits with no regrets.

The Ivory Coast legend, who became an icon for African football in the world, has finally decided to call it quits. The 40-year-old footballer had created doubts about his future with a Twitter post last week, but has decided to put an end to a 20-year career in the world of football.

In a eye-watering post, Drogba confirmed his retirement after failing to win the USL title with Phoenix Rising a few weeks ago.

Drogba took his first professional steps with French club Le Mans in the 1998-99 season. After four years with the French club, he joined Guingamp for two seasons before his breakthrough season at Marseille.

His legend grew even bigger when he joined Chelsea, where he scored 164 goals in 341 games. There, Drogba won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the 2011-12 UEFA Champions League.

After spells in the Chinese Super League, the Turkish Super Lig and a brief return to Chelsea, Drogba joined Montreal Impact in the MLS for two seasons, before finally signing a contract with the USL's Phoenix Rising.

Drogba will also be remembered by his off-the pitch contributions to different causes, which include bringing peace to his country, which earned him a spot on Time Magazine's list as one of the World's 100 most influential people in 2010.
