The Spanish ace tried to soften some statements where he denied any interest in being one of Real Madrid's go-to guys after CR7's departure.

Marco Asensio has ended his silence after being slammed by the Spanish press.

A couple of weeks ago, Asensio created controversy by failing to take responsibility for Real Madrid's woes, while trying to hand those duties to more experienced players.

In an interview with Marca, Asensio came clean about his alleged "true" words, denying he wanted to hand responsibility to some of his Los Blancos' team-mates.

"My words were misinterpreted. What I meant is that I truly respect each one's role inside the team. Do I want to be in charge of things? Of course! I am an ambitious kind of guy, I always push myself to the limit of my capabilities," Asensio said.

Since Cristiano Ronaldo's departure, Marco Asensio has played sixteen games for Real Madrid in all comps, having a hand in just two goals (one scored, one assist).

Following his alleged words that showed an impressive lack of commitment, Asensio ruled out the possibility of searching for a way out of Real Madrid, since he is fully focused on showing his leadership skills.

"I know who I am and I want to show everyone that I can be that player. I want to become a legend at Real Madrid, I want to be a beacon of excellence in this club's history," Asensio concluded.
