The Reds do not want history to repeat itself anytime soon.

Per the agreement reached by the two clubs, Barcelona is not permitted to sign a player from Liverpool for the next two seasons. Having secured the service of Philippe Coutinho for £145million in January 2018, the Catalans were made to sign the deal with the clause in it as a deterrent for them should they try to sign other potential players of interest.

According to Spanish radio Cardena Ser, the Blaugrana has until 2021 to make another attempt at purchasing  a Liverpool player. However, the validity of the clause is reportedly tied to the fact that Liverpool will not actively choose to sell their player before the stipulated date in 2021.

In retrospect, both Luis Suarez and Javier Mascherano switched the English club for the Catalunya side at the very pinnacle of their respective careers. With Liverpool missing out on the impact the two players could have made in their best years as a result, the club is not seeking to go down the same road anytime soon. In that regard, Mohamed Salah – who has been linked with a move to the Camp Nou in recent times – would now not see a move away coming to fruition in the near future.

While Liverpool is not bounded by the same condition, the Reds will be hoping to test Barcelona's resolve on acquiring the service of Ousmane Dembele. The Frenchman was signed from Borussia Dortmund the same period Coutinho joined Barcelona from Liverpool.

However, the 21-year-old winger has failed to live up to the billing and break into the starting XI with his inconsistent form. In recent, weeks Dembele has been in the spotlight for continually harboring the irresponsible behavior of reporting to training late.

While Barcelona is said to be a bit reluctant to part ways with the winger, a figure in a region of 89 million could possibly cause the Catalans to sell the ex-Dortmund star, according to UK tabloid The Sun.
