The Italian manager could reportedly seal a sensational coup to become manager of the Red Devils.

Former Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte is reportedly keen on replacing Jose Mourinho as Manchester United manager. In recent weeks, the 49-year-old Italian has been tipped to take over from Real Madrid's Julen Lopetegui. The latter was sacked on Monday after failing to impress following his acquisition this summer.

However, speculations suggest that Conte has turned down the opportunity amid fears of not getting the full backing of Los Blancos' dressing room. In addition, the ex-Juventus and Chelsea manager reportedly demanded two signings during negotiations but had his requests turned down by the Real Madrid hierarchy.

As a result, the Spanish giants promoted former midfielder Santiago Solari from their Castilla side to serve as the club's interim manager with talks of bringing the Italian manager to the capital stalling. Meanwhile, Real Madrid is said to be exploring other alternatives.

According to Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, the club's president is actively considering the prospect of reuniting with Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager, who left the Spanish club in 2013, has seen his job at Manchester United coming under massive scrutiny following a series of underwhelming results this season. Nevertheless, calls of his sack have reduced drastically in recent weeks.

Still, Gazzetta dello Sport maintains that Antonio Conte is aware of Real Madrid's interest in Mourinho. As a result, he could be a participant in the chain reaction should his predecessor at Chelsea consider a move away from Manchester.

Also, the idea of working with former Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba at Manchester United is one that seems very appealing to the manager who won the Serie A thrice during his tenure as the Bianconeri's head coach.
