The legendary footballer made headlines after aiming several digs about Messi's leadership skills inside Argentina's National Team.

Diego Maradona's words about Lionel Messi's influence in the Argentine National Team caused fans and experts to launch scathing attacks against "El Pelusa", which may force the legendary footballer to offer his apologies to the Barcelona ace.

Speaking in an interview with "Entrevista con América 24", the legend's lawyer Matias Morla hinted that Maradona will call Messi to explain what he meant with his words during an appearance in "La Última Palabra", a TV show aired by Fox Sports México.

"Maradona will be calling Messi. I don't know if it will be an apology, but he will surely try to explain what he meant. He hinted that we should leave Messi alone and keep the pressure away from him. Diego is sad, he was hurt by some comments, especially those from Mario Kempes. He has always supported the National Team," Morla stated.

"What he meant is that we should stop Messi from going mad, that he's not responsible for their latest failure. The media is trying to create a problem, they're saying that he offended Messi because of Diego's way of speaking," Morla added.

Maradona's words were interpreted by most as if he was aiming a dig at "La Pulga", which was quite surprising due to his usual nature of protecting Barcelona's ace. Only time will tell if Messi will reply to Maradona's "upcoming" phone call.
