The 33-year-old center back has confirmed the Red Devil’s interest.

Skipper and center-back of the Swedish national team, Andreas Granqvist, has confirmed that Manchester United is interested in bringing him to Old Trafford. The 33-year-old defender who currently plays for Helsingborgs in his home country starred for the Blagult at the 2018 FIFA World Cup held at Russia in the summer.

Having succeeded ex-Manchester United forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the new captain, Granqvist fired Sweden to the knockout phase of the tournament. The former Wigan player aided his country top its group which had Germany, Mexico, and South Korea competing to qualify to the knockout phase by scoring two goals during the competition.

Speaking in a recent interview with Expressen, Granqvist revaled that the Old Trafford outfit has been in touch and, should things go as expected, a move to England in January could be on the cards.

"There is indeed interest. I am honored that I am linked with such a big club.

"If there is a concrete offer in January, then both the club and I will accept that, but that is currently not the case."

According to the Mirror, Jose Mourinho sees Andreas Grandqvist as a short-term fix and, as a result, will want him signed on a short loan. The Portuguese manager is also believed to have identified Inter Milan's Milan Skriniar as well as AC Milan's Alessio Romagnoli as potential recruits to come and fix the flaws in his side's defense.

With Manchester United currently struggling defensively, Mourinho will hope his targets will be landed this time around. The 51-year-old manager was infuriated earlier in the summer with the Manchester United board failing to back him in the transfer window.

The ripple effect of the club's negligence is seen in their struggles in recent matches. Grandqvist, although not a permanent fix, is expected to control the damage should his January move materialize.
