It was reported that the Special One will be axed regardless of the result in Saturday's clash with Newcastle.

It was the report that had everyone talking. The Mirror recently reported that after losing faith in Jose Mourinho, Man United had decided to sack their manager no matter the outcome of Saturday's clash with Newcastle.

The ax was tipped to come this weekend, with the Red Devils enduring a four-game winless run. With the club's biggest names having turned on their manager and the fans booing their own team in the goalless draw with Valencia, the Mirror claimed that the 20-time Premier League champion decided it is best to part ways with the Portuguese tactician.

However, as written by the Daily Mail on Saturday morning, this couldn't be further from the truth. Senior sources at Old Trafford have strongly denied those claims, insisting that the manager will be given time to turn things around.

Everyone at the Theatre of Dreams knows all isn't well at Man United. They currently sit in 10th spot with 10 points, which is their worst start to the season after seven games in 29 years.

Furthermore, they already trail Man City by nine points and the early signs point to a struggle to qualify for next season's Champions League. However, the campaign has just begun, and Mourinho will be awarded the opportunity to drag the team out of the hole that they are currently in.

Many fans have called for the Special One to be replaced after growing tired of his "boring" football and poor results. It has even been speculated that the players believe it's only a matter of time until he is replaced, but others argue that the board should show faith in Mourinho. Club legend Gary Neville passionately defended the under-fire boss, insisting that the club would be "rotten to the core" were they to sack him.

Regardless, rumors linking Jose with an exit won't die anytime soon. The gaffer has fallen out with the likes of Pogba and Sanchez, with many other first-team members reportedly losing faith in their boss.

While the 55-year-old's job is secure until the next international break, it's hard to guess whether Woodward and Co. will cut the manager the same slack should things get worse. Beating the Magpies on Saturday could be the beginning of a turnaround, but unless the behind-the-scenes tension cools down, Man United's fortunes might not improve anytime soon.
