Juventus eventually landed the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, but things could have ended differently.

After Cristiano Ronaldo officially left Real Madrid for Juventus, a number of sources claimed that the Italian giant was the only big club to make a concrete offer for the 33-year-old. However, according to El Mundo (via Marca), that's far from the truth.

According to their report, three top European sides were interested in the five-time Ballon d'Or winner. They tried to lure the Portuguese icon away from Santiago Bernabeu once he had decided to leave, but they did not succeed.

After seeing his wage demands not met by the Spanish giant, Jorge Mendes informed the Champions League holder that he would not return after the World Cup. This happened months before his Serie A switch was made official, with another Italian side having moved for the attacker before Juventus.

That club was AC Milan. Former owner Li Yonghong was willing to spend big to land the goalscoring machine, offering $174M for the then Bernabeu superstar. However, Ronaldo turned down their offer as he questioned whether they could challenge for titles.

Man United was also interested and inquired about their former player. Real Madrid wanted $116M for the Euro 2016 winner, a price which the Red Devils failed to meet. As a result, their attempts to re-sign Ronaldo ended there.

Last was PSG. Long has the French giant admired the all-time leading Champions League scorer and thus met with Jorge Mendes with a proposition. The Ligue 1 champion was willing to sign him but only on the final day of the transfer window, as they feared to lose Neymar or Mbappe to Real Madrid as a result.

However, the 33-year-old saw this as too risky and thus backed out. Soon, the forward looked into a move to Turin, a possibility which became a reality. Since then, he has enjoyed a lovely Serie A start, scoring three and assisting four in his first seven games.
