Cristiano Ronaldo has debunked the ‘fake news’ tagging him as a rapist.

Juventus and Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has had a say on speculations that cites his name in an alleged rape case. A detailed account by German magazine Der Spiegel allegedly claimed that the 33-year-old striker forceful slept with an American woman whose name was revealed as Kathryn Mayorga.

Per the narration of the supposed victim, the rape incident took place in a hotel room in La Vegas back in June 2009. Der Speigel went further to incite that Cristiano Ronaldo and Ms. Mayorga worked out an out-of-court settlement worth $375,000 (£275,000). In return, the 34-year-old alleged victim was supposed to remain silent on the matter.

However, the non-disclosure agreement attached has been made void by Kathryn Mayorga after she came out with the allegations. The American told Der Spiegel that she resorted to that because she is still traumatized by the alleged rape which happened nine years ago nine years ago.

On Sunday, Cristiano Ronaldo rebuffed the authenticity of the rape claim after he was queried by a fan on his Instagram Live feed. The Portuguese striker said: "No, no, no, no, no - what they said today [is] fake, fake news.

"They want to promote by my name, it's normal.

"They want to be famous to say my name, yeah, but it's part of the job.

"I'm a happy man and all good."

Cristiano Ronaldo's lawyer, Christian Schertz, also revealed in a statement that a legal action will be taken against Die Spiegel as their actions seek to defame his client.

"It violates the personal rights of our client Cristiano Ronaldo in an exceptionally serious way," he was quoted to have said via Sky Sports.

"This is an inadmissible reporting of suspicions in the area of privacy. "It would therefore already be unlawful to reproduce this reporting.

"We have been instructed to immediately assert all existing claims under press law against Spiegel, in particular, compensation for moral damages in an amount corresponding to the gravity of the infringement, which is probably one of the most serious violations of personal rights in recent years."
