Pepe Reina wants to quit Liverpool to play Champions League football. The goalkeeper is eying a move to Manchester United in the summer as Van der Sar is set to retire, but Dalglish has rubbished these claims.
Earlier this week, Pepe Reina made his intentions very clear as he spoke to Spanish radio station Onda – according to English news source The Sun. Responding to Manchester United’s issue with Van der Sar who is expected to hang up his gloves at Old Trafford, the Liverpool goalkeeper was quoted as saying:

“Yes, well, Van der Sar will end his playing days in the summer so... of course, they [Manchester United] are looking. I can't do anything, and I can't say anything logically, as I have a contract with Liverpool.

“Of course, everyone likes to fight for titles and to be in a team that does that. We [Liverpool] always fought to be in the Champions League and tried to win the title.

“But unfortunately, it hasn't been the case in the last couple of years. I’m not going to lie. I want to play in the Champions League and challenge for titles.”

But Coach Kenny Dalglish, who is very positive about Liverpool’s future, also believes that Pepe Reina’s future is at Anfield and at no other club. Last season, Pepe Reina put rumours of an exit to bed as he signed a 6-year contract to remain at Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish expects the Spaniard to honour his contract as the Merseyside Reds are marching on towards brighter destinations.

“We’ve got a fantastic goalkeeper and he will be here for a long, long time. The Champions League is what everyone here wants to get to.

“For us, it’s only been a year since we’ve not had it and that’s what we want to get back. It should be the same for every player. We should all be aiming for that.”

So Kenny Dalglish is hoping goalkeeper Pepe Reina can remain focus in his job. From the relegation zone in which the lingered earlier this season, Liverpool have moved way closer to the European zone.

The Reds are 6th in the English Premier League and only 6 points behind Chelsea and Tottenham with 12 match-days to go. The first of those remaining games comes up this weekend as Liverpool host Wigan Athletic with the task of holding on to their recent perfect record.
