Germany set to host 2024 UEFA Euro

Germany announced as 2024 UEFA European Championship host

September 27, 2018 By Oscar Rojas
The German bid defeated the Turkish option after UEFA's Executive Committee voted for the host nation today.

UEFA has announced the place where the UEFA Euro will return to its usual format.

Football's governing body in Europe revealed today that Germany will host perhaps the most competitive tournament played by National Teams in 2024, following the 12-nation format that will be used in the upcoming 2020 UEFA Euro.

The German bid was elected by UEFA's Executive Committee due to the country's capacity of putting together successful tournaments in the past.

DFB boss Reinhard Grindel and Turkish exec Servet Yardimci were not allowed to vote, as the remaining federations chose the German option by a margin of 12 votes for the Germans and only four for the Turkish bid. One vote was deemed as invalid, according to UEFA's website.

Here's how UEFA's Twitter feed revealed who will play the role of hosts in the 2024 UEFA Euro.

This will be the fourth major tournament hosted by the Germans, and the second time in history in which they will play the role of UEFA Euro hosts. Germany hosted the 1974 and 2006 FIFA World Cups, while also hosting the 1988 UEFA Euro.

Former Die Mannschaft captain and spokesman for the German bid, Philipp Lahm, shared his views on the decision.
