He is looking to evolve, not change...

Spain head coach Luis Enrique has declared that he is not considering the prospect of changing his side's playing style as he aims to take them back to the glory days. The former Barcelona boss who took over the club from interim manager Fernando Hierro in July and has since led La Roja to two wins in the UEFA Nations League against England and Croatia respectively.

Speaking in an interview with UEFA, Luis Enquire highlighted the uniqueness of his team's style and hinted at improvements that were being made.

"With this style, we were the World Cup champions in South Africa (2010) and in two Euros (2008 and 2012).

"It's been an attack style, based on team-work, it's offensive, but we are trying to evolve and improve it because when it manages to win titles worldwide, they all copy and study it, and with that, people find many solutions and this poses many problems.

"I pay a lot more attention to all the things we have to work on at the offensive level, but not about being more direct. Being direct or not depends on where space is, where the opponent is pressing," he added.

Luis Enrique also commended the inaugural UEFA Nations League, citing that it will provide teams with more competitive matches instead of pointless friendlies. The former Barcelona boss further voiced his contentment with Spain's successive wins in the competition.

"I like the Nations League because we avoid playing so many friendlies which, whether we like it or not, are matches with low pressure," he noted.

"We have done very well [so far] and to be able to compete with these teams has been a very important point of motivation for us.

"We have lost a bit of our status, as we are ninth in the FIFA ranking and we are looking forward to rising to the top.

"For that reason, we need to win these matches and we need to win trophies."
