Wayne first told a funny story about the Dutchman. Then Memphis hilariously hit back on Instagram.

While Memphis Depay's fashion during his time at Man United was spot on, his time on the pitch was far from it. The Dutchman struggled to settle at Old Trafford despite arriving as a hot prospect, leaving shortly afterward for Lyon.

Former Red Devils captain Wanye Rooney recently touched on the topic of Memphis torrid spell in an interview. While the Englishman hailed him as "a lovely lad", he hinted that the 24-year-old put to much focus into his looks during his rough spell.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, Rooney said: "He came on at Stoke away and messed up for their goal.

"So, Louis van Gaal made him play for the reserves the next day. I said, 'Look, it's a bit difficult [for you]. Just don't come in with all your fancy stuff.'

"And he turned up for the reserve game in his Rolls-Royce, wearing a leather jacket and a cowboy hat. And I just thought, 'What's the point?'"

Wayne's anecdote caught the attention of many news outlets and also Memphis, as it didn't take too long for the Ligue 1 ace to respond. However, it appears the Lyon star saw the humor in his former team-mates story and hit back with a funny troll.

The Dutchman took to Instagram, posting a picture of him and Man United's record goalscorer with a caption suggesting the Englishman used to rely on him for looking good.

So far this season, the Old Trafford reject has picked up where he left off in Ligue 1. After scoring 22 goals in 51 matches in all competitions last season, Memphis has kicked off the new campaign with two assists and one goal in five French top-flight appearances.
