The 12th edition of the Taça da Liga is currently underway and the third round, featuring all of the "Big 3" sides - Porto, Sporting CP and Benfica - kicks off this week. Benfica, with seven titles, are the most decorated side in this competition, but Sporting CP, who beat Vitoria de Setubal in the 2018 final, are the current reigning champs and will be hoping to successfully defend their title during the final set to be contested in Braga on January 26, 2019.
There is no Primeira Liga action, but Portuguese football fans will still be able to see several of their favorite teams in action this weekned in the cup matches. Several teams, including Sporting CP, Benfica, and Porto are all in European competition next week, with Benfica facing the rather unenviable task of taking on Bayern Munich so this cup game could see them rest quite a few key players for that tough trip to Germany in a few days' time.
