FIFA reveals FIFPro XI nominees

FIFA announces the nominees for the 2018 FIFPro XI award

September 10, 2018 By Ali M.
One of last year's winners missed out on the 2018 edition.

The players in contention for the FIFA FIFPro World XI have been revealed, with a number of A-list players being in the run for the 2018 edition. Football's world governing body announced the 55 names shortlisted for this award, with the favorites making the list.

All but one of last year's World XI have returned, with Leonardo Bonucci being the odd exception after his indifferent season with AC Milan. This means the likes of Ramos, Marcelo, Kroos, Modric, Messi, Neymar, and Cristiano have all been nominated once more.

Of all the teams represented in the 55-man shortlist, it comes as little surprise to see Real Madrid with the most number of nominees. Los Blancos have 11 players on the list, mainly due to their third consecutive Champions League triumph in 2017/18.

When it comes to nations, World Cup champion France has a staggering eight representatives. However, that tally is only the second best, with Spain coming in first with nine.

The likes of N'Golo Kante, Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann, and Raphael Varane will be hoping to break into this group after their success in Russia 2018. The FIFA FIFPro is decided by the players, with 250,000 different professionals voting for one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders, and three attackers that excelled the most between 3 July 2017 and 15 July 2018.
