The center back offered some support to his former boss following the constant rants from fans that want him to leave the Red Devils'.

Former Chelsea defender John Terry gave a long interview to the Daily Mail, and one of the talking points was the future of his former boss and mentor Jose Mourinho.

According to Terry, Mourinho is struggling to lead Manchester United to greatness due to one main issue: his current players don't seem to have what Mou needs to make a team thrive.

Terry referred to one of Chelsea's most successful era, where Mourinho's personality often clashed with some big names, including himself, Didier Drogba, Michael Ballack and more. The main difference between that team and Manchester Utd's current squad is the palpable 'lack of character' these players show.

"At every club he has had big characters and I'm not sure he has that at Manchester United at the moment. At Chelsea, he did," Terry said.

The center back recalled an incident between himself and Mourinho in which the Portuguese boss had a particular way of forcing Terry to give his absolute best.

"He embarrassed me after one pre-season, after we had won a league title. He stopped the training session, came in, threw down his pad. 'If you keep giving the ball away, I will go and buy someone for £50million,'" Terry recalled.

"I didn't understand why he was doing that, but my instinct was to run and give everything; flying into tackles, winning the ball. We made eye contact and he grinned. He knew exactly what he was doing — to get the best out of all of us," the player added.

Mourinho and Paul Pogba have been involved in several rumors surrounding their bad relationship, which according to Terry could be solved with a bit of effort from the footballer.

Before the interview concluded, Terry urged Man United players to "roll up their sleeves" and try to show Mourinho their desire to win, because it will pave the way for a better understanding of their current boss.

"Does he have the same now at United? You have to stand up and turn up at training every day and show him that you want to win at all costs. If you've got that, he's 100 per cent on your side," Terry stated.

Despite his best wishes for the Special One, Terry admitted that his Top thre teams in the English top flight don't include Manchester United.

"My top three for this season will be decided between City, Liverpool and Chelsea. That leaves United and Spurs fighting for fourth," the free agent concluded.
