Los Colchoneros found inspiration to create this kit in the Roman God of the sea, Neptune, who is closely related to the team's customs.

Alternative kits are usually just used by teams as a way to promote their brand around the world, or in some cases, to give fans a sense of continuity regarding their history. This time, Atlético Madrid didn't satisfy their fans after unveiling a strange third kit.

Four Atlético players, including Antoine Griezmann, struck a pose with the new threads, which have the characteristic Atlético stripes in two different tones of blue. Their main sponsor changed its color to yellow, and the kits' shorts were turned white.

Despite their efforts, fans didn't seem to fancy this effort by Los Colchoneros. Have a look at some of the most scathing comments shared by fans via Twitter.

"In their minds, it looked spectacular"

"Sell it to Malaga fans."

"Please delete this blasphemy"
