The Portuguese manager blocked his compatriot's move to rejoin his former club.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho reportedly stood in the way of Cristiano Ronaldo rejoining the Red Devils this summer. The Portuguese forward, having made his intentions clear to depart from Real Madrid, was heavily linked with a move back to Old Trafford.

Prior to Juventus making an official bid, Manchester United was said to be lining up one of their own after Jorge Mendes – Ronaldo's agent – reportedly offered him to the club. Nonetheless, amid numerous speculations, no concrete offer came from the camp of the 13-time English champions.

According to UK tabloid The Mirror, Jose Mourinho told the Manchester United board to desist from making a move for Cristiano Ronaldo as he did not see him to be a priority signing. The former Chelsea manager, instead, asked the club to sign a new center-back despite already bringing onboard Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly.

Evidently, only the first part of Mourinho's purported wish was satisfied as his club failed to sign a centre-back although one among Harry Maguire, Yerry Mina, Toby Alderweireld and Diego Godin was supposedly on his side's radar.
