The Special One has received support from an unexpected source ahead of the upcoming Premier League round.

While Jose Mourinho has been criticized left, right, and center; the Portuguese tactician has received words of support from an unexpected source. Speaking ahead of the upcoming Premier League round, none other than Pep Guardiola leaped to his rival's defense.

The Man United boss has found himself under heavy fire after the Red Devils' poor start to the season, having lost back-to-back games against Brighton and Tottenham. A number of fiery press-conferences with reporters, including one on Friday in which he labeled himself as "one of the best managers in the world", have done little to help his case.

Rumors have been circulating that Mourinho could get sacked on Sunday if his team loses at Man United. Regardless, Pep sang his praise while also hailing the Old Trafford side as "a top team".

"It's our job, unfortunately [on facing criticism], it has happened to me in the past and unfortunately as managers our job depends on results," Pep said, as per Sky Sports.

"When we win we are good when we don't win we are not good so it's simple like that.

"What's important is to know the quality and the quality of the managers I believe when you get that level of the Premier League - all the managers are here because they are top, top managers."

The Spaniard also insisted that it's too early to be making a judgment, arguing that the season truly begins after the international break. Whether Mourinho will be in charge at the Theatre of Dreams until then remains unknown, however.

As for Guardiola, his focus will be on his team's upcoming tie. The defending champion takes on Newcastle on Sunday, aiming to return to winning ways after their 1-1 draw with Wolves last weekend.
