Marco Reus scores 100th Bundesliga goal as Dortmund thumps Leipzig

August 26, 2018 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The BVB skipper has finally reached a century of goals in the German league.

Marco Reus scored his 100th Bundesliga goal in Borussia Dortmund's 4-1 thumping of RB Leipzig on Sunday. The 29-year-old midfielder saw his side fall to an early lead in their season opener as Jean-Kevin Augustin put the visitors ahead after just 31 seconds.

The fortune of the Signal Iduna outfit was, however, turned around after Mahmoud Dahoud grabbed the match's equalizer 20 minutes later. An own-goal by Marcel Sabitzer in the 40th-minute handed Lucien Favre's side the lead before debutant Axel Witsel widened the difference by grabbing a goal two minute to half-time.

Marco Reus then placed the icing on the cake by chasing down a through-ball by substitute Jadon Sancho and blasting it home in injury time to get his team's fourth.

The German attacker who consequently reached a century of goals scored his first-ever Bundesliga goal against FSV Mainz back in 2009 while he was playing for Borussia Mönchengladbach. Having rejoined his boyhood club in 2012, Reus has more often than not played an intrumental role in the success enjoyed by Dortmund in recent years despite his constant battles with injuries.
