The Spanish top flight has already started negotiations to see the first game being played in North American soil.

La Liga's decision to have at least one of their official games held in North America has caused massive controversy, but time is of the essence if they want to plan that move properly.

Today, a report by Marca reveals that the league's top executives have started negotiations with the host club of the said game, and if they are fine with the decision, all they will have to do is set a date and name the venue where the match will be held.

The report states that Girona and Barcelona are the teams that have been chosen to play in North American soil. The Catalan minnows were expected to host that game, and negotiations are already underway to see them concede part of their regular box office income.

This game has been chosen due to a number of reasons. First off, the date set for this game doesn't interfere with UEFA Champions League games. Next, the venue in question would have more seats than Girona's stadium, which would be tempting to see the hosts having this game played abroad. Last, but not least, it was the game with the least question marks, since other options were not as doable due to both team's commitments.

This game was scheduled to be played on January 27, 2019, which means that it could be held in a Southern state of the U.S., given the cold weather conditions during that month.

La Liga will now try to convince the Spanish Footballers' Association to determine if they can continue planning this game being played abroad or not, given that most captains voiced their complaints about this measure.
