Lewandowski admits pushing for Bayern exit

Robert Lewandowski admits he wanted to leave Bayern München

August 22, 2018 By Oscar Rojas
The Polish striker had been linked with a move away from Allianz Arena, but the player's stance has changed.

After an entire summer surrounded by rumors, Robert Lewandowski has come forward to state he wanted to leave Bayern München, the reasons to push for a transfer, and why he's chosen to keep up his word and continue playing for Die Roten.

In an interview with Sport Bild, the Polish striker admitted that he was pushing for an exit away from the club during last season's final months, especially after some games where he was harshly blamed for the team's misfortunes.

"There were two or three big games in which I didn't score, and it was like someone gave the order: 'fire away against Lewandowski'. I didn't feel protected by the club, I was left all alone. No one stepped up to defend me, not even the team's bosses. This happened back in April and May," the striker stated.

The former Borussia Dortmund ellaborated on why he chose to seek a way out of the club.

"They (fans) made me feel as if I had no credit with the team. They made me feel as a newcomer. That's why I thought about saying goodbye," "Lewa" added.

But if fans were pushing him out of the club, it was the fans that convinced him to stay in recent weeks.

"My heart is 100% with Bayern München again. I've felt how much fans love me, so I know now that they still want me here," the striker said.

"I will never refuse to train, I will never go one-on-one against the club, and I will never think about playing in any other league. I will stay here until my contract ends," the player concluded.
