Valencia ace could still join R. Madrid

Valencia president opens up about the future of Real Madrid transfer target

August 21, 2018 By Oscar Rojas
Julen Lopetegui's interest in signing a Valencia striker has been given a major boost by Los Naranjeros' exec Mateo Alemany.

Real Madrid have apparently been given a major boost in their pursuit of Brazilian-born striker Rodrigo Moreno, as Valencia's president hasn't ruled out a possible deal for Los Naranjeros' ace.

Speaking after his team's 1-1 draw against Atlético, Mateo Alemany referred to the possibility of seeing the footballer leave the club before August 31, referring to the player's buyout clause as the main reason for Los Blancos' fans to be hopeful about this signing.

"I am not aware of any contact between the player or his agents with Real Madrid, but if they (Real Madrid) come up with €120M (around $139 million), then there's nothing we can do to prevent that transfer," Alemany said.

Rodrigo Moreno has been named as one of Julen Lopetegui's requests to Florentino Pérez in order to boost Real Madrid's ailing attack. Moreno was once part of Real Madrid's academy, and he had his breakthrough season last year, when he scored 19 goals in 43 outings with Valencia in all competitions.

Despite his initial words, Alemany admitted that Moreno's departure would create a huge void in the team's lineup, and he is still keen on keeping him around.

"Rodrigo is a key member of our team and we want him to stay. I see him highly motivated and happy to be here," Valencia's exec added.

The striker worked under Lopetegui as he rose through the ranks of Spain's U-21 and senior teams. Real Madrid's boss sees him as a suitable competitor for Los Blancos' No. 9 spot, but only time will tell if he will be able to battle Karim Benzema for a spot in the team's lineup.
