Both scored aerobatic overhead kicks in the Champions League last season, but only one was deemed worthy of a nod.

The UEFA Goal of the Season nominations are out and Cristiano Ronaldo finds himself on the shortlist for this prize. The Portuguese ace's stunning goal against Juventus in the Champions League last season was his effort that made the cut after stunning everyone with his finish past Buffon.

Prior to joining the Serie A giant, the 33-year-old tore them apart in their quarter-final encounter in Europe. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner scored a brace, but only his unforgettable overhead-kick goal remaining in fresh on the memories of football lovers.

Not only did that acrobatic finish earn him a standing ovation at the Allianz Stadium, he is now in the running to win a prize for that strike. His nomination, however, means that former team-mate Gareth Bale missed out.
