Luciano Spalletti is maintaining his belief of the Croatian joining his side.

Inter Milan’s Luciano Spalletti has refused to rule out the potential arrival of Real Madrid midfield star Luka Modric. The 32-year-old Croatian has been linked with a move to the Nerazzurri for the majority of this summer following an impressive campaign at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Although the player reportedly fancies a move to join the Serie A outfit, the understanding is that Real Madrid is very reluctant to part ways with him having already lost Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus in this transfer window.

The recent development in the speculated move indicates that the European champions are preparing a hefty contract extension package for Modric in an attempt to ward off suitors. Speaking after Inter Milan’s 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the ICC, the Italian manager highlighted the difficulty in brokering the deal but was reluctant to pour cold water on it happening.

“Modric? I don't know it's not up to me. The fact that he has an interest in us is a great sign for our project.

“It's not easy to get these type of players. He may not come but our directors still did a great job, let's see. I don't know if Real Madrid will let him leave...".

Inter Milan who secured qualification to feature in this season’s UEFA Champions League has already done a remarkable job in the transfer window with the recruitment of Radja Nainggolan, Lautaro Martinez, Federico Dimarco, Sime Vrsaljko, Matteo Politano, Stefan de Vrij and Kwadwo Asamoah.
