After finishing in a disappointing fifth spot last term, Chelsea will be looking to improve as the Blues aim to at least qualify for the Champions League this campaign. The London giants opted to part ways with Antonio Conte and bring in another Italian tactician, Maurizio Sarri, as they seek to turn their fortunes around, but so far, it has been hardly smooth sailing since the ex-Napoli boss took over.
Chelsea notably lost 2-0 to Manchester City in the Community Shield last week, and while that is not necessarily a harbinger of things to come for the rest of the season, it is not the way any new coach will want to commence proceedings, and it goes without saying that Sarri will want to kick off his first ever Premier League game with a confidence-boosting victory over Huddersfield on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Chelsea's hosts are no strangers to frustrating big sides. Last season, David Wagner's team managed to scrape by and avoid the drop by pulling off impressive last-gasp draws against a Chelsea side led by Conte and most notably, a scoreless draw against Manchester City to keep their survival hopes intact.
As such, the hosts will be hoping to spring a huge surprise on opening day, but they will be fighting a losing battle against history. This game could see several of Chelsea's new signings, including young Spanish international Kepa and Napoli's Jorginho make their Premier League debuts, although Real Madrid's Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic is not likely to feature after being signed on loan earlier this week.
