R. Madrid sets sights on EPL ace to replace Modric

Real Madrid sets sights on EPL ace in case Modric leaves

August 7, 2018 By Oscar Rojas
The Croatian midfielder seems determined to leave the club, and Los Blancos have already started working on who'd take his place in the lineup.

Real Madrid has been living in fear of losing one of their best footballers for a couple of weeks, and that prospect seems to be turning into a reality. Luka Modric seems determined to leave the club this summer to join Inter Milan, and according to a report by Marca, he will let the team know he wants to push for an exit as quickly as possible, since the transfer window in Italy shuts down next Thursday.

With that in mind, Real Madrid is ready to make a move to replace Modric, and the team has identified three suitable options to sign in midfield. Their main target is none other than Christian Eriksen, who had been linked to the club last year as Modric's backup. No talks have taken place between Real Madrid and Tottenham as of now, but if any deal to see Modric leaving the Spanish giants takes place, the Danish midfielder will be their main option.

Eriksen was key to Denmark's run in the FIFA World Cup, which was cut short by Modric's Croatia in the Round of 16.

The transfer window in England shuts down on Thursday, and that could complicate things even further for Real Madrid. If a deal to sign Eriksen can't be reached, Los Blancos have targeted Thiago Alcántara and Sergei Milinkovic-Savic as two feasible options.

Alcántara worked under Lopetegui during their time together with Spain, and Milinkovic-Savic has been tipped as a major transfer target for several big clubs this summer. Either way, time is of the essencer in all scenarios, and Modric's potential exit might force Real Madrid to move quickly if they want to find a proper replacement.
