The Portuguese manager did not spare his players and the English club following the defeat to Liverpool.

Jose Mourinho, yet again, bemoaned his side's readiness for the upcoming season after seeing them fall to a 4-1 defeat against Liverpool in Saturday's ICC encounter. The Red Devils and their rivals ended the first-half tied at a goal apiece but the latter turned up the heat to add three more with the goals from Daniel Sturridge and Sheyi Ojo complimented by Xherdan Shaqiri's stunning overhead kick.

It's been an uneventful pre-season for Manchester United who is yet to win a single game in regulation time in its pre-season matches despite featuring in four. This, many attributes to the fact that the Old Trafford outfit is yet to receive most of its World Cup stars to its camp.

In spite of that, a few key players namely Nemanja Matic, Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw have already been ruled out of action for the preliminary stage of the English Premier League after sustaining respective injuries. Compounding the prevalent crisis, the Red Devils are yet to add any more players to their ranks following the arrivals of Diogo Dalot and Fred from FC Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk.

This inactivity in the transfer window has, as a result, caused Jose Mourinho to lament the club's chances in the upcoming season. Speaking after the loss to Liverpool, the Portuguese manager heavily criticized the performance of the players who were given a run-out in the game after he being questioned about Alexis Sanchez's performance.

"You want him to be very happy with the players he has around him?" Mourinho said of Sanchez. "We are not playing here to improve the team or improve our dynamic. We are playing here just to survive and to have some not very happy results.

"Alexis is the only attacking player we have. We don't have wingers, we don't have strikers, he is the only who is here. "And the poor man is there trying his best with the frustration of someone who wants more.

"I would like to have two more players," Mourinho added.

"I think I am not going to have two. I think that it's possible I'm going to have one. I gave a list to my club of five names a few months ago and I wait to see if it's possible to have one of these players. If it's possible, it's possible.

"If it's not possible, it's not possible. If it's possible, it's good. If not, then we keep fighting and working and believing in the players that we have."

Meanwhile, numerous reports suggest that the new signing Mourinho spoke about during his press conference was no other but Chelsea's Willian. It is believed that the Blues have agreed on a 75-million-euro fee with the Red Devils for the 30-year-old Brazilian winger to complete his switch.

Negotiations for the services of either Harry Maguire of Leicester City or Tottenham Hotspur's Toby Alderweirald is also said to be ongoing with mutual agreements yet to be reached.
