The Portuguese boss wants the Frenchman to shine just like he did with Les Bleus this summer, but he's using a strange tactic to motivate him.

The relationship between Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho is far from being the best, and the Portuguese boss' words about his player's consistency will spark controversy among Manchester United fans who wish The Special One didn't harrass one of their best players.

With rumors about Pogba asking to be transferred by the Red Devils, Mourinho aimed a new dig at his footballer, who hasn't stepped up to lead Manchester United as he might expect, even claiming that all the distractions away from the pitch have an effect on his performances.

Speaking to ESPN, Mourinho assured that it's only up to Pogba to show why he was one of the stand out players for France during the recently concluded World Cup.

"It's not about us (the coaching staff) to bring out the best in him, it's all about him showing what he's capable of," Mourinho stated.

The Portuguese boss assured that the World Cup format is the main reason why Pogba was such a relevant player for France.

"It's the perfect habitat for a player like him to show his worth. Why? Because you only have to think about football for one month, you're with the team, far away from all the earthly distractions, and only playing the game can motivate you," Mou added.

According to Mourinho, the length of the Premier League season demands too much concentration from Pogba, which causes his mind to drift and forbids him from showing consistent performances on a weekly basis.

"During a season, you may have a big game, then a not-so relevant game, and one more of those. Some players might lose focus and concentration...until you have one more big game ahead of you," Mourinho concluded.

Manchester United is currently on tour through the United States, while Paul Pogba is still on holiday after winning the FIFA World Cup with France. The midfielder is expected to return to active duty on August 9, but transfer rumors have linked the player to a Serie A return with Juventus. Is this Mourinho's attempt to show him the exit door for good? We will find out in the next few weeks.
