The Bayern Munich official launched a scathing attack on the 29-year-old, labeling him everything from 'sh*t' to 'weak'.

While Mesut Ozil garnered tons of support on social media upon revealing his decision to quit the national team, with the hashtags #IStandWithOzil and #SayNoToRacism trending in his defense, not everyone is hailing the Arsenal playmaker. One of them is Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness who launched a scathing attack on the midfielder after his announcement.

The 29-year-old Premier League star took the social media on Sunday, blaming racism and disrespect from the German FA for his retirement. After receiving intense backlash for taking a picture with Turkey president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, he was turned into the scapegoat for die Mannschaft's early World Cup exit.

The former Real Madrid ace was unhappy at the very least to be blamed for his nation's disgraceful performance in Russia despite the stats showing that there was more than meets the eye. Furthermore, threats and insults directed at him and his family made things worse but the Bayern Munich official took nothing but pleasure from seeing him walk away from the national side.

The topic of Ozil was brought up to Hoeness by SportBild at the airport on his way to Philadelphia for the International Champions Cup. The die Roten official did not hold back with his response, labeling him everything from "sh*t" to "weak".

"I am glad that this scare is now over. He had been playing sh*t for years," the 66-year-old told the German tabloid.

"He last won a tackle before the 2014 World Cup. And now he and his sh*tty performance hide beyond this picture.

"Whenever [Bayern] played against Arsenal, we played over him because we knew that was their weak point.

"His 35 million follower boys - that don't exist in the real world - are convinced he has played sublimely when he completes a cross pass.

"The development in our country is a catastrophe. You have to go back to what it is: sport. And from a sporting point of view, Ozil has no place in the national team for years."

Despite all the criticism, Mesut has managed an impressive tally of 23 goals and 40 assists in 92 caps. He also won the 2014 World Cup and was named German Player of the Year on five separate occasions.
