EPL ace set to join Real Madrid

EPL star set to replace Navas as Real Madrid's goalkeeper

July 18, 2018 By Oscar Rojas
The Costa Rican goalkeeper will have some strong competition if he wants to keep Los Blancos' No.1 spot under the sticks.

Keylor Navas' stint as Real Madrid's top-choice goalkeeper is set to come to an end, as Los Blancos have been given a massive boost in their search for a top-caliber shot-stopper.

With Zinedine Zidane out of the picture, the first order of business for Florentino Pérez was securing a goalkeeper that could keep their fans happy, mainly because the Costa Rican had some frequent mishaps in key games.

Taking all those mistakes under consideration, Los Blancos' hierarchy have finally made a decision about his replacement, and Thibaut Courtois is the man chosen to defend the sticks. Courtois beat De Gea, Alisson Becker and other top-choice goalies to the job, mainly due to his contract's situation with Chelsea.

According to Marca, the Golden Glove winner in the FIFA World Cup will move to the Bernabeu as soon as Los Blancos pay Chelsea $40M for the player's services. Added to that, Chelsea must find a replacement for Courtois before the deal can be announced.

The reason behind Courtois' low cost is simple: his contract comes to an end next summer, and Chelsea wants to cash in on the player before he can walk away on a free transfer.

This would be the third Real Madrid signing of the summer, following that of young goalkeeper Andriy Lunin and right back Alvaro Odriozola. Courtois' move wouldn't be the only one involving Real Madrid and Chelsea, as the Spanish giants are still trying to sign Eden Hazard, but his transfer away from Stamford Bridge may be more complicated due to the price tag set on the Belgian ace by the Blues.
