Thibaut Courtois launched a scathing attack right after the end of the FIFA World Cup semi-final in which France defeated Belgium, and one of Les Bleus' aces didn't hold back when asked about this matter.
Speaking in what could be his last appearance in front of the press ahead of the World Cup final, Antoine Griezmann hit back at the Belgian goalkeeper, who blasted France for their defensive display and their non-existent tactics as soon as the semi-final match concluded.
"Well, he played for Atlético and won a league playing like that. Now, he plays for Chelsea, a team that surely plays like Barcelona,"Griezmann said ironically.
"I don't care how we win, I'll care about having that star embroidered to our crest," the player added.
Some experts were expecting Griezmann to take a more decisive role in this competition. According to the footballer, what matters is how the team can adapt to whoever takes the lead.
"Maybe if I was the top scorer we would have lost. So, I thought that if I could help a bit more if I left the spotlight for someone else," the player added.
Lastly, the footballer dismissed being interested in a Ballon D'Or nomination, especially with what's at stake for France right now.
"We have a chance to win the World Cup, not the Ballon D'Or. I don't mind if I don't win that trophy. I'm going to give it all to be world champion. If it's meant to be, so be it," Griezmann concluded.
