The Algerian playmaker came close to a move to the Etihad a few months ago, and now he can finally call himself a Citizen.

Six months after their first attempt to sign the player fell through, Manchester City confirmed Riyad Mahrez as their first signing ahead of the 2018-19 season.

The Algerian footballer becomes the Citizens' most-expensive transfer of all time, as Pep Guardiola's side agreed to pay Leicester City over $79M (60 million pounds).

The club revealed the news to its fans on social media with a series of tweets.

Mahrez leaves Leicester City after four years. He helped the Foxes to famously win the 2015-16 Premier League title, scoring 48 goals in 179 appearances in all comps.

The Algerian ace came close to sealing this move during the winter transfer window, but Leicester City's demands were too much to handle for Man City, who had already splashed cash before the beginning of the season.
