After being subjected to some heavy criticism by the press earlier this week, former teammate Wendel has come to the rescue of Yoann Gourcuff.
Yoaan Gourcuff has been the target of the French press on numerous occasions this season but former teammate and Bordeaux believes that writing off Gourcuff is a mistake.

“Gourcuff is Gourcuff,” Wendel explained to RMC. “He was especially confident at that time; everything went well. He was comfortable on the field; he had a lot of confidence. The coach and the players were behind him.

“Everyone goes through difficult times. He'll become the player who finished the best Ligue 1 player in 2009. He has not lost his technique, finesse and vision. He must continue to work.”

Gourcuff was a huge hit with Bordeaux during the 2008-2009 season, helping them to the league title under the guidance current France coach, Laurent Blanc.

Gourcuff is regarded as one of the brightest talent in French football but has been criticized on numerous occassions for his attitude and discipline. Even Paolo Maldini criticized the attitude he displayed during his time with AC Milan.

Olympique Lyonnais will be going up against Bordeaux this Sunday. Wendel will certainly be hoping that Yoaan Gourcuff doesn’t get into his fiery mode for that clash.
