The PSG ace picked up a calf injury in the 2-1 round of 16 victory over Portugal.

Edinson Cavani was the hero for his national side in their round of 16 clash with Portugal but endured a bitter-sweet ending in their victory. Despite scoring both goals en route to the 2-1 victory over Portugal, the striker was forced off the pitch due to injury.

The PSG ace opened the scoring early on after connecting with a beautiful Luis Suarez cross to break the deadlock. An exquisite second-half strike saw him complete his brace but he then limped off the ground, with the help of Cristiano, and was eventually substituted in the 73rd minute.

His participation in the quarter-final is now under heavy doubt. Uruguayan newspaper Ovacion claims Cavani will sit out their match against France in the last eight as a result of Saturday's unfortunate knock.

The 31-year-old, who injured his calf, was limping around the training camp the following day and the consensus among those close to him is that he will not recover in time for their upcoming clash. Telefoot took this a step further by claiming the World Cup might be over for him.

The French TV hosted doctor Michel Cymes, who came on to explain the Uruguayan's injury. According to him, Edinson could be set for a six-week sideline.

If true, this will be a huge blow for Oscar Tabarez's men. Regardless, the likes of Suarez, Godin, Gimenez, and Torreira should be available for their showdown with Deschamps' high-flying side on Friday.
