Preview

With just two spots in the round of 16 up for grabs, Group H is set to be quite an interesting one on matchday three. Poland have been already eliminated after losing to Senegal and Colombia, meaning that it's a three way battle between Japan, Senegal, and Colombia for the last two spots.

As things stand, the round of 16 could have an Asian and an African representative should things go Japan and Senegal's way. The Blue Samurai made sure they gave themselves a good shot by first beating a 10-man Colombia and fighting to a 2-2 draw against Senegal.

Poland, for their part, have had a poor tournament. Hopes were high for Adam Nawalka's side, especially as they cruised through qualifying comfortably and came into this competition ranked as a top ten side. However, their dismal showings have proven that rankings are just a number, as they were frustrated in a 2-1 loss to Senegal and then crushed by Colombia, who ran riot in a 3-0 win.

Robert Lewandowski, who the highest scoring player in Europe during qualifying has also had a disappointing competition to date - with zero goals and zero assists. But despite his side being eliminated, he certainly will hope to at least grab his first World Cup goal and try to ensure his team don't leave Russia without a single point in hand.

Fans all saw how an already-eliminated South Korea managed to stun Germany and dump the reigning champs out of the competition on Wednesday. Japan will have that in mind that Poland will naturally not want to go down without a fight and will be keen to make sure that they can secure their spot in the round of 16 - without needing a favor from the Colombia and Senegal match.
