Please do not win!

Some section of the Three Lions' fan base is rooting strongly for Belgium to win for a rather bizarre reason. Gareth Southgate's men will go head-to-head with the Red Devils on Thursday to determine the winner of Group G as both countries are tied at six points apiece.

The fuss which has built up in the past few days, however, revolves around the fact the outcome of the upcoming clash will determine whether either of the sides will have an "easy" ride to winning the World Cup trophy. One side of the bracket features Portugal, Uruguay, France, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and the first runner-up of Group H whiles the other has the likes of Spain, Russia, Croatia, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland and the winner of Group H.

Should England be victorious against Belgium, they will face the second placed team in Group H in the Round of 16. A win there will then set up a quarter-final showdown with either Brazil or Mexico and, subsequently, a semi-final clash with one among Portugal, Uruguay, France, and Argentina.

On the other hand, a defeat to Belgium will put them in the company of the members of the other bracket. Here they will get the winner of Group H at the Round of 16 stage, the winner of the Switzerland-Sweden clash at the quarter-final and one of Spain, Russia, Croatia, and Denmark at the semis.

It is safe to say that most English fans really fancy the latter scenario.
