Curiously enough, two of the countries named by FIFA will not have their National Teams playing in Russia.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup is one week away, and the first numbers regarding ticket sales are in.

Earlier today, football's governing body revealed that over 2.4 million tickets have been allocated for the tournament, with over 54% of those tickets being sold away from Russian soil.

Over eight hundred thousand tickets have been sold to Russian fans, and out of the top ten countries that have bought tickets for the competition, two stand out due to the absence of their national teams: USA and China.

U.S.-based fans have bought over 88,000 tickets, while football fans in China have purchased 40,251 tickets for the competition.

Peruvian fans, who waited 36 years to see their National Team playing in a World Cup, have bought 43,583 tickets for the competition, making it to the Top 5 Latin American countries with tickets for the tournament.

Here's FIFA's report on how international fans have purchased tickets for the 2018 World Cup.

  1. USA - 88, 825 tickets

  2. Brazil - 72,512 tickets

  3. Colombia - 65,234 tickets

  4. Germany - 62, 541 tickets

  5. Mexico - 60,302 tickets

  6. Argentina - 54,031 tickets

  8. China - 40,251 tickets

  9. Australia - 36,359 tickets

  10. England - 32,362 tickets

These numbers are subject to change, since FIFA will sell last-minute tickets from June 8 until the end of the competition. Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis.
