Preview

Although Austria failed to qualify for the upcoming tournament in Russia, Franco Foda's side have been in solid form as of late. They have won their last six games, while keeping clean sheets in their last three and come into this fixture having beating Russia. That being said, Germany obviously will be a much tougher test than a Russian side who have not presented a threat to any of their opponents so far in their recent friendlies. And shutting out the likes of Slovenia and Luxembourg is naturally much easier than keeping die Mannschaft at bay, so this will truly present a better chance for Austria to test themselves.

As for Germany, coach Joachim Löw will be keen on seeing a huge improvement in his side as they have not impressed lately, and have failed to win any of their last five games. That being said,  Löw has been tinkering with his formation as he attempts to find his best starting XI but they were far from convincing in recent friendlies against both Spain (1-1) and Brazil (a 1-0 loss).

The biggest news for die Mannschaft is the fact that Manuel Neuer, who has been out for over eight months, could likely get to feature against Austria. The Bayern Munich star has finally returned to training after his long injury lay-off and this could prove vital in deciding as to whether he gets to be on the plane to Russia in less than a fortnight's time.
