Spain will seek to enter Russia 2018 with their unbeaten record intact when they host Switzerland on Sunday. The 2010 World Cup winners were drawn in the same group as Portugal, Morocco and Iran, and despite being tipped as favorites to finish at the top, they will need all the help they could get.
It's been an interesting ride for them since Julen Lopetogui took over from Vicente del Bosque after Euro 2016. Under the supervision of the former FC Porto manager, the side is yet to taste a single defeat after their premature exit from the tournament in France two years ago.
As a result, hopes are high for La Roja to further their invincible quest, and that includes getting a favorable result coming up against Switzerland. They will, however, do it in the absence of the Chelsea quintet Cesc Fabregas, Alvaro Morata, Marcos Alonso and Pedro, who were all omitted from the 23-man squad to grace Russia.
Switzerland, on the other hand, will also use the test to prepare for their games against Brazil, Serbia and Costa Rica in Group H of the 2018 World Cup. The Swiss have been triumphant in 13 of their last 15 matches and could very well pose to be threats for whatever opposition they will encounter.
