Super Mario is back!

Mario Balotelli featured for the Azzurri for the first time since playing at the World Cup in Brazil four years ago. Having rejuvenated his career in his spell with French side Nice in the just ended season, he earned a deserved call-up by new coach of the Italian national team, Roberto Mancini.

The former Manchester City man repaid the faith his old boss had in him by netting his first goal just 21 minutes into his nation's friendly encounter with Saudi Arabia. After fully announcing his presence in the Azzurri's 2-1 victory, Balotelli took to Instagram to pen a moving tribute to his former compatriot Davide Astori who passed away earlier this year.

"I know it's late and that you're already there… but I am convinced that you were up there watching the game with my Dad today.

"This goal, even if it might not mean anything, even if it's no use to anyone, I dedicate it to you."
