For some mind-blowing turn of events, Liverpool could defy the odds and beat Real Madrid in the upcoming UEFA Champions League final.

The year is 1981 and the day is May 2. Eintracht Frankfurt had won its third DFB Pokal trophy by defeating FC Kaiserslautern 3-1 inside the Neckarstadion in Stuttgart.

12 days later, a London club, Tottenham Hotspur, lifted the FA by beating Manchester City via a 3-2 aggregate scoreline at Wembley. On the 27th day of the same month, Liverpool played against Real Madrid in the final of the European Cup Final.

In front of 48,360 fans, Allan Kennedy’s lone strike in the 82nd minute won the Reds their European trophy. Approximately two months later, a royal wedding between Charles, the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer took place at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, United Kingdom.

Almost 37 years have elapsed and the son of the couple, Prince Harry, has also tied the knot with Megan Markle in another spectacular royal wedding. May 19 was the day the ceremony took place and a few hours later Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Bayern Munich by three goals to one to win the 2018 DFB Pokal whereas a London club, Chelsea, defeated Manchester United to win the FA Cup.

On May 26, Liverpool – just like the 1981 European Cup Final – will feature against Real Madrid in the grand finale of the UEFA Champions League. A déjà vu beckoning? Well, with all these events having unfolded remarkably, history repeating itself could be well and truly underway.
