Arsenal to name former PSG coach as manager

Arsenal to name former PSG coach as manager after Arteta snub

May 21, 2018 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Gunners have found Arsene Wenger's successor!

Unai Emery is said to be leading the pack to fill the Arsenal's vacant managerial seat ahead of strong favorite Mikel Arteta. The former Arsenal midfielder - now a coach at Manchester City - is said to have withdrawn from the running for undisclosed reasons.

Other candidates who were believed to be in contention for the job bar Arteta includes former Arsenal players, Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira. However, according to the BBC's David Ornstein, the decision to appoint Emery was unanimous following a recruitment process in which all aspirants were spoken to.

An official announcement is expected to be made within the course of the week. Unai Emery recently vacated his post at Paris Saint-Germain and has been replaced with Thomas Tuchel after winning seven trophies for the French champions in his two-year spell.

He previously led Sevilla to three successive Europa League trophy wins between 2014 and 2016.
