The Messiah turned up once again!

Barcelona was given a huge scare in what was an end-to-end affair at the Camp Nou on Sunday. Having gone in front via a Luis Suarez goal in the opening minutes of the fierce encounter, the Catalans were pinned back by a Cristiano Ronaldo equalizer.

A subsequent red card to Sergi Roberto at the cusps of half-time for a foul on Marcelo momentarily hampered the hosts’ chances of getting a favorable result. However, Lionel Messi stepped up to put weary minds to bed by putting Barcelona back in front six minutes into the second half to take his tally for this league season to 33 goals in 32 games.

The Catalan forward subsequently became the player with the most La Liga goals at the Camp Nou in the history of El Clasico with a tally of seven, surpassing Real Madrid legend Paco Gento’s six goals. Gareth Bale took the game back to level-pegging later on but his Los Blancos side failed to do anymore damage to the dominant Barcelona’s unbeaten run.
