Despite putting in a strong fight at the Bernabeu last Tuesday, the Bavarians failed to overturn the 2-1 defeat suffered at the hands of Real Madrid’s at the Allianz Arena in the first-leg. Upon visiting the Bernabeu, the Germans only managed a 2-2 draw which consequently saw Real Madrid setting up a final date with Liverpool via a 4-3 aggregate scoreline.
James Rodriguez, who starred in the midweek encounter was at it again as his goal and assist fired Bayern Munich to a 3-1 away win over Cologne in the weekend’s Bundesliga. Although his side is back to winning ways, the 26-year-old attacker believes it will take some time for the team to get over their elimination from the UEFA Champions League.
“I think until next season everyone will get over [the loss to Real] in their own way,” he expressed in an interview with Bundesliga.com after the game at Cologne.
“I don’t think it was fair. We did well to get through [to the semi-finals] but this is how football can be sometimes.
“We now have to think about [avenging the defeat] in next season’s Champions League,” James added.
