The Blaugrana needed just a draw against the Galicians in the Sunday night fixture to complete their domestic double having won the Copa Del Rey against Sevilla last week. First-half goals by Lionel Messi and Philippe Coutinho initially set the Catalans on the path to a comfortable win but the hosts leveled the playground with goals from Lucas Perez and Emre Colak.

With Barcelona’s unbeaten run very much at stake talisman of the side, Lionel Messi, turned up the heat by completing his hat-trick with goals in the 81st and 84th minutes, respectively. The goals took the 30-year-old forward's overall tally for this season to 32 and he subsequently became the first player in the history of La Liga to score 30 or more goals in seven different seasons.
Furthermore, the Barca No. 10 joined Cristiano Ronaldo (34) as the only two players in the history of La Liga with 30 or more hat-tricks. In a side note, Luis Suarez became the first player ever to assist Lionel Messi three times in a single game across all competitions.
Barcelona’s big win at the Estadio Riazor - which gave Lionel Messi his ninth La Liga title and his 32nd across all competitions- officially sealed Deportivo La Coruna’s relegation fate.
