Preview

For the third time this season, Marseille will be facing Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg. The French side first took on Salzburg during the group stages earlier this campaign, which ended up with them losing one and drawing the other. Salzburg, for their part concluded the group stages by finishing four points clear of Marseille, and while they were not viewed as favorites to get this far, they're clearly showing they are a side not to be underestimated.

Notably, Salzburg came from behind to overturn a massive deficit against Lazio that saw them score three goals in less than five minutes. They have also beaten Real Sociedad, Borussia Dortmund - and as noted before, Marseille - already this term, so they have certainly demonstrated that they are here to go as far in Europe's second-tier competition as possible.

Concerning for Marseille is the absence of first-choice shot-stopper Steven Mandanda, who is struggling with a thigh injury. That has cost them dearly, as they have failed to keep a clean sheet in 13 of their last 14 matches, and while Salzburg has their own defensive issues, they are hoping that in their 21st European match this campaign - a record in itself - they can take one step closer towards featuring in their first final since 1993/1994.

Salzburg so far have lost just one of their last 20 European games, when they were beaten 4-2 by Lazio. The Aquile surely thought they were through to the semi's before being shocked in the return leg, and Marseille, having already dealt with their opponents' trickiness this term, will be aiming to get some revenge and and the better of their foes to book their spot in the final. Rudi Garcia's men have built their success in this contest largely thanks to their strong home form, which has seen them win seven and draw just once.
