Fears of the PSG ace missing the tournament in Russia are slowly dying.

With the 2018 World Cup fast approaching, one of the biggest worries is the fitness of Neymar. Fears of the Brazilian missing out on Russia arose after his recent injury, but the player has given a positive update on his road to recovery.

The PSG superstar broke his metatarsal bone back in February during a Ligue 1 game which left everyone sweating. The 26-year-old required surgery, the first in his career, but he confessed that he will return before the crucial summer tournament.

Speaking to reporters in Sao Paulo, the world’s most expensive player said (as per BBC Sport): "I get my final examination on 17 May and then I'll be free to play.”

"I had an examination last week, it is all perfect, evolving well, so I hope that continues so I can get back as soon as possible.

"I am having treatment every day, and from the moment I start training, I am going to work harder than I ever worked because this is a dream that's coming up. It's a World Cup. I've waited four years for this chance, it's close."

This predicted return date comes one month before the Selecao begins their campaign against Switzerland on June 17. Furthermore, the former Barcelona ace should return to training with PSG two days before their final league game.

However, Neymar is fully aware that the aforementioned timeline hinges on him suffering no setbacks. The attacker stated he is in constant with Tite and Brazil's technical coordinator Edu Gaspar over his fitness.

Regardless, this will come as great news for the five-time World Cup champion. Although they have performed considerably well in his absence, they are on a completely different level with the former Santos sensation in their lineup.

PSG, who will be in action against Caen in the French Cup semi-final today, has managed without their marquee signing. Emery’s side crashed out of the Champions League but won the Ligue 1 title in emphatic style by thrashing Monaco 7-1.
