PSG 7-1 AS Monaco: Hosts obliterate defending champions to win Ligue 1 title

April 15, 2018 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Parisians secured their fifth league title in six years in grand style.

It was merely a competition inside the Parc des Princes as Paris Saint-Germain initiated a rampageous attack on AS Monaco in Le Classique. Last season’s league winner was on the receiving end of a brace each by Angel Di Maria and Giovani Lo Celso, a goal by Edinson Cavani and Julian Draxler as well as an own-goal by Radamel Falcao with Rony Lopes getting their consolation goal to cap the miserable night.

The victory further ensured that a 16-point gap was established between Unai Emery’s men and their second-placed nemesis with four games to spare. PSG had won the French domestic league four times in a row before Monaco broke the trend last season.

In what was a memorable night for Paris Saint0Germain, striker of the side Edinson Cavani his 113th goal to equal Zlatan Ibrahimović’s record as the all-time goalscorer of the capital club. The forward has bagged 25 goals in 29 Ligue 1 appearances this season.
