Many fans have accused UEFA in the past of trying to arrange an El Clasico final in the Champions League. While this has never happened before, it could become a reality this season with both Real Madrid and Barcelona likely to make the semi-finals.
And Blancos has no fears over facing their bitter rival on the grand stage. This was a message echoed by club president Florentino Perez ahead of the 2nd leg quarter-final ties.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Perez welcomed the prospect of facing the Catalan giant in Kyiv. He, however, warned the Blaugrana that they could face a repeat of their Spanish Super Cup defeat at the hands of Cristiano and Co.
A stellar performance both home and away by Zidane’s men handed Valverde’s side a 5-1 defeat. The Real Madrid president hinted that a similar loss could be inflicted on Barcelona should they meet in the final.
"The important thing for is to reach the final and I imagine that we'll have to play Bayern first," he said, as per Marca.
"We always seem to play against them. But if we were to play Barcelona in the final, I remember that earlier this year we beat them twice in the Supercopa: 3-1 away and 2-0 at home."
As stated by Perez, first both Spanish sides must confirm their spot in the last four. Los Merengues hosts Juventus on Wednesday with a comfortable 3-0 lead while Messi and Co. face Roma on Tuesday at the Stadio Olimpico.
